3. Remove Variation from Processes: Six Sigma focus on two types of process variation: first is a common cause (natural variability) and second - special cause (specific anomalies). Methodology and DMAIC framework


Six Sigma utilizes two key methods for project success: DMAIC and DMADV. 


The most popular model is DMAIC. It is used to enhance how businesses operate. DMAIC consists of five steps: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control. It requires that these steps work together, as it can help to improve a specific part of a business or even the entire organization, also it  can lead to better results and efficiency. While this method can be applied in various industries, it is especially recognized for its role in Six Sigma and Lean Six


Sigma, which focus on making processes more effective and reducing waste.


The steps listed above can be interpreted as follows:


  • Defining: Identify the problem, goals, and customer requirements.

  • Measuring: Collect data to quantify the issue.

  • Analysing: Investigate data to determine causes of defects.

  • Improving: Implement changes to address root causes.

  • Controling: Monitor the new process to maintain improvements.


Typically, DMAIC projects last about four months.


The other methodology is the Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify (DMADV) methodology, which is applied when creating a new product or process or dramatically redesigning an existing product or process. DMADV follows the first three steps of DMAIC with the last two steps adjusted to Design and Verify.


Design: Develop designs to find out possible mistakes.


Verify: Check it with stakeholders.


The primary distinction between DMAIC and DMADV lies in the fact that DMADV is more customer-oriented and oriented at creation of new offers and acquiring knowledge on how to enhance design.
